Karlovy Vary (throughout the year). Karlovy Vary or Carlsbad is the largest and the best known spa in the Czech Republic. It is situated approximately 130 km west of Prague.  The town was founded by Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia in 1358. There are 12 famous hot springs and the local facories producing glass /Moser/, popular Czech liquer /Becherovka/, Carlsbad wafers /Karlovarské oplatky/ and porcelain /Karlovarský porcelán/. Karlovy Vary is a very popular tourist destination. The most important personalities visiting Karlovy Vary were: Peter I of Russia, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Princess Michael of Kent, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frydyrik Chopin, Johann Wolfgang Goethe.
